Endam Home of Hope Strengthens Commitment to Early Childhood Education in Humanitarian Crises “Every child deserves a strong start. Every dream deserves a chance.” At Endam Home of Hope, we believe that lasting change begins in the earliest years of a child’s life. When children have access to quality early childhood education, they gain more than academic skills, they develop confidence, resilience, emotional well-being, and the foundation they need to thrive throughout their lives. This commitment was recently reinforced as our Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yvonne Ndaga, participated in a high-level workshop on Preparing a Fundraising Document for Early Childhood Education in Humanitarian Crises, organized by Moving Minds Alliance in collaboration with REACH. The workshop convened humanitarian practitioners, development organizations, and advocacy leaders committed to strengthening investment in early childhood education for children living in crisis-affected communities. Why Early Childhood Education Matters in Humanitarian Settings Across the world, millions of children are growing up amid conflict, forced displacement, climate emergencies, and other humanitarian crises. These challenging environments often interrupt learning, threaten children’s wellbeing, and limit opportunities during the most critical years of development. Research consistently shows that the first years of a child’s life are fundamental to lifelong learning, health, and emotional development. Humanitarian organizations increasingly recognize that investing in early childhood development is one of the most effective ways to protect children, strengthen families, and build resilient communities. For refugee and vulnerable children, early childhood education offers: Building Capacity to Create Greater Impact The fundraising workshop provided an important platform for learning, collaboration, and knowledge exchange on sustainable financing strategies for Early Childhood Education in Emergencies (ECDEiE). By participating in this initiative, Endam Home of Hope continues to strengthen its institutional capacity to mobilize resources, build strategic partnerships, and design impactful programmes that respond to the evolving needs of children affected by displacement and humanitarian crises. For our organization, fundraising is not simply about securing financial resources, it is about creating opportunities for children to access quality education, protection, and hope regardless of the circumstances into which they were born. Advancing Our Mission At Endam Home of Hope, education remains one of the strongest pathways toward restoring dignity and transforming lives. Endam Home of Hope Marks World Refugee Day 2026 Honouring Courage, Resilience, and the Right to Seek Safety Every year on 20 June, the global community commemorates World Refugee Day—an international day dedicated to recognizing the courage, resilience, and contributions of millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict, persecution, violence, or disaster. The 2026 observance emphasized a powerful message: the universal right to seek safety and the collective responsibility of governments, organizations, and communities to protect the dignity and rights of people forced to flee. At Endam Home of Hope (EHHOP), we proudly joined the global movement in commemorating this important day at our Oron Centre, bringing together refugees, host communities, government representatives, and partners in a celebration of unity, diversity, resilience, and hope. Our World Refugee Day celebration was more than an event—it was a reaffirmation of our commitment to creating opportunities where refugees can not only find safety but also rebuild their lives with dignity, purpose, and hope. Walking Together in Solidarity The celebration began with a community road walk, symbolizing our shared commitment to standing alongside refugees. As participants walked through the community, the activity served as a visible reminder that every refugee deserves protection, inclusion, and the opportunity to live free from fear. The walk also helped raise public awareness about the realities faced by displaced populations while encouraging compassion and solidarity within the host community. Messages of Hope and Commitment The event featured goodwill messages from representatives of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and Endam Home of Hope. The speakers reaffirmed the importance of protecting refugee rights, promoting peaceful coexistence, and investing in programmes that empower displaced persons to become self-reliant members of society. Their messages reflected a shared vision where refugees are recognized not only for their needs but also for their strengths, talents, and invaluable contributions to society. Celebrating Culture and Diversity One of the most memorable moments of the day was the vibrant cultural dance performances presented by refugees from different communities. Through music, dance, and traditional expressions, participants proudly shared their cultural heritage, reminding everyone that diversity enriches communities and strengthens social cohesion. The performances highlighted the beauty of preserving cultural identity even during displacement and demonstrated how culture can become a bridge for understanding and unity. Showcasing Refugee Creativity and Entrepreneurship Visitors also explored a colourful product exhibition featuring handmade items produced through Endam Home of Hope’s livelihood and vocational empowerment initiatives. The exhibition showcased the creativity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial potential of refugees who continue to transform challenges into opportunities. Every product represented more than a finished item—it told a story of resilience, determination, and hope for a better future. By supporting refugee-led enterprises, communities contribute directly to sustainable livelihoods and economic independence. Building Self-Reliance Through Skills Development A key highlight of the celebration was a practical Soda Soap Making Training, designed to equip participants with valuable vocational skills. The training forms part of Endam Home of Hope’s broader livelihood programme aimed at promoting: By investing in practical skills, we empower refugees to create sustainable sources of income, strengthen their confidence, and reduce dependency on humanitarian assistance. Breaking the Silence, Building Hope Every June, the world observes Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on an issue that has remained in the shadows for far too long. At Endam Home of Hope (EHHOP), we believe that mental health is a fundamental part of human wellbeing and that every man and boy deserves to be heard, supported, and empowered. Across many communities, men are often expected to remain strong, resilient, and emotionally reserved. While resilience is valuable, these expectations can make it difficult for many men to express their emotions or ask for help when they need it most. Too often, struggles with stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or emotional exhaustion are carried silently. Silence should never be mistaken for strength. The World Health Organization recognizes mental health as an essential component of overall health, enabling individuals to cope with life’s challenges, realize their abilities, work productively, and contribute positively to their communities. Yet stigma continues to prevent many people, especially men, from seeking the support they need. Being vulnerable does not diminish masculinity. April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month, a time to reflect, but more importantly, to act. This month calls us to go beyond awareness posts and hashtags, and commit to real change in our communities. At Endam Home of Hope (EHHOP), we believe that ending sexual violence starts with intentional conversations, safer spaces, stronger systems of accountability, and a culture where survivors are met with belief, not blame. Too many people continue to carry their experiences in silence. Shame, fear, and stigma often make speaking up feel impossible. That is why creating environments where survivors feel safe, supported, and respected is not optional, it is a shared responsibility. Whether in our homes, schools, workplaces, or online spaces, each of us has a role to play in challenging harmful norms and ending the normalization of gender-based violence. Refugees are not just beneficiaries of humanitarian action, they are leaders, innovators, advocates, and changemakers. This message was at the heart of Endam Home of Hope’s participation in the Global Refugee Progress Review in Geneva, where our Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yvonne Ndaga, and our Secretary proudly represented our organization alongside distinguished leaders from ECOWAS, governments, humanitarian agencies, civil society organizations, and refugee-led initiatives from around the world. Their participation marked another important milestone in our mission to ensure that refugee voices are not merely heard but actively shape the policies, partnerships, and decisions that affect their lives. Bringing Refugee Leadership to the Global Stage The Global Refugee Progress Review serves as an international platform to assess progress made under the Global Compact on Refugees while identifying opportunities to strengthen collective action toward refugee protection, inclusion, and durable solutions. It brings together governments, development partners, refugee-led organizations, and humanitarian actors to reflect on commitments and chart the path forward. For Endam Home of Hope, this gathering was more than a conference, it was an opportunity to demonstrate that meaningful refugee participation is essential to building effective humanitarian responses. Our delegation shared the realities experienced by refugee communities, highlighted practical community-led solutions, and reinforced the importance of placing refugees at the center of decision-making processes rather than at the margins. Refugees Leading Their Own Development Throughout the discussions, Endam Home of Hope championed a principle that has guided our work since our founding: Refugee empowerment must be driven by refugees themselves.
